The VP-8 Song

(Author unknown   -   Sung at the Hail & Farewell party for Cdr. Nasworthy and incoming CO - Cdr. Holtzberger   July,1959 )

VP - 8 Song

(To the tune of "Oh, Lonesome Me")

Men:                            Oh, we're the stout and hearty men of VP-8,

We wake at dawn and fly "til dusk for VP-8,

We eat and sleep and talk the P2V

                                                Oh, . . . boring we.

Women:                        Oh, we're the weak and timid wives of VP-8,

We wake at dawn and feed those men of VP-8,

We eat and sleep and talk the P2V

                                                Oh . . .   . baffled we.

CHORUS

Men & Women:                        Oh, We're the happy folks

                                                That make up VP-8

                                                We're happy for the opportunity,

                                                To tell you lucky folks

                                                Our problems and our jokes

And even talk about that P2V.

One Man:                     I told my wife I'm going on an R O N,

She said, "Enjoy yourself but please be back by ten",

I said "No dear, remain over night",

                                                Oh . . . what a fight.

One Woman:                He talks about the runway they call zero four,

And then he says that there are even several more,

I'll never understand why one won't do,

                                                Oh . . . fickle you.

CHORUS

Men & Women:                        Oh, We're the happy folks

                                                That make up VP-8

                                                We're happy for the opportunity,

                                                To tell you lucky folks

                                                Our problems and our jokes

And even talk about that P2V.

One Man:                     It's point to point, over water and then locally.

And when we're done we fly some more operationally,

To sit at home one night must be real swell,

                                                Oh . . . war is hell.

One Woman:                He says the plane is down when it is on the ground,

And then he says it's up but it's still on the ground,

I think he's trying to make a fool of me,

                                                Well . . . don't you agree?

CHORUS

Men & Women                         Oh, We're the happy folks

                                                That make up VP-8

                                                We're happy for the opportunity,

                                                To tell you lucky folks

                                                Our problems and our jokes

And even talk about that P2V.

Everybody:                  So, now you've heard our plain and simple tale of woe,

And now it's time to say so long we've gotta go,

We hope you have enjoyed our brief review,

And now . . .   we bid adieu
